Is it decorative lighting essential at home?

At home, interiors with decorative designer lamps should be addressed according to the lifestyle. At a single executive’s home technical light will prevail. The decorative lamps will be an isolated case, but well selected and with a prominent role.

However, in a standard traditional family with kids, technical spotlights can be a solution for corridors and bathrooms but the lamps for the main bedroom, living room, children’s bedroom, kitchen or a room to be used as office, play a central role in order to add warmth and personality to the home. Decorative lighting rounds and enhances the interiors that you choose; it also shows and reinforces the personality and taste of its inhabitants.

How can I illuminate a large area?

It is very difficult to predict in a large space beforehand where we exactly need sockets, we also do not know which furniture will be used, the size and where.

If we do not have sockets on the wall for sconces, we should keep to the ones in the ceiling and the other ones to connect floor lamps. If an area is thought for the dining room, the socket in the ceiling should be used for a suspension to illuminate the table, if the socket does not match up with the place where we would put the table we should fix a piece to move the electric cable with a little bit of charm.

If there are not enough socket in the ceiling, we must round off the atmosphere with floor lamps placed in strategic areas: e.g., next to a sofa.
As a general idea, if we do not want to do more repair work but enjoy nice and adequate lighting for any purpose, portable lamps should have priority over anything else.

The most important thing when we go out for dinner is what we are going to eat; the second one is not only that the atmosphere is pleasant, but also that the lighting at the table is adequate.
For a restaurant whose target is middle-aged public, with a high income, an intimate and cozy atmosphere is desirable. In this case the most adequate lamps are the ones whose shades and diffusers mimic with the ambience. E.g., with nice organic forms (if we talk about contemporary design décor) or universal forms (for a more classic or rustic décor). It is also very important to see what we are eating so the lamp must reflect light over the dishes, the temperature of light will also be key to achieve the best result.

Besides of a decoration according to the values and philosophy of the project, the most important thing on a commercial installation is lighting: this will make a project really successful or simply incomplete.
There are many kinds of commercial installations, bars, restaurants, hallways, common areas, hotel rooms, stores…. In most of them you should have to find balance between technical and decorative lighting. The later must enhance and optimize aesthetically the chosen decoration, harmonizing colours, volumes and forms. Decorative lighting plays a key roll giving light to specific areas; e.g., a focal light directed to different dishes on a table, but wrapped in a shade/diffuser of warm colour or able to match with the decoration. Decorative lighting has an impact on specific areas where we look for a special effect, with a specific type of light (N.B., to create a certain atmosphere).

Awards, are they really important?

Three awards in two years, not bad!!! And the last surprise is… we have just been awarded with a Red Dot, a prestigious German award, for the design GUAU by El Último Grito. From the beginning all the design team in arturo alvarez has thrown itself neck and neck with Rosario Hurtado and Roberto Feo to obtain this subtle and clean piece, but at the same time able to surprise us with its endless effects and possibilities. Congratulations to everyone!
